2012 NFL Mock Draft: Dont'a Hightower Could Be Kansas City Chiefs Longshot At No. 11

When you look up and down the Kansas City Chiefs roster and depth chart you begin to realize that this team doesn't have a lot of holes right now. That's not to say that positions couldn't be upgraded, but the number of spots on each side of the ball that scream 'upgrade is needed' aren't as many as some outsiders might tend to believe in regards to the Chiefs right now.

So when you look at a team that doesn't have a lot of holes and you try and find which players would be perfect fits for that teams' specific needs in the upcoming draft. You'd be hard-pressed to find a guy that fits the Kansas City Chiefs inside linebacker position that's currently held by Jovan Belcher better than Alabama linebacker, Dont'a Hightower.

Many people will come out and scream that Hightower at No. 11 is way too high for him because he's projected as a late-first round pick. While I do share some of this same sentiment because a guy like David DeCastro will most likely be available when the Chiefs are picking in the No.11 spot, but it's undeniable that HIghtower fits our ILB to a tee as to what we need that guy to do.

He can't even be described as a "thumper" as many use that word to describe that particular position on the defense. He's more like a missile. He doesn't 'thump' into plays, he blows them up. He's a playmaking linebacker at a position on the defense that many don't believe a playmaker is needed. He showed in his time at Alabama that he can put his hand in the ground and rush the passer. That ability along with an understated athleticism to play against the pass could see him leading a Chiefs defense for the next 10+ years.

I don't necessarily think the Chiefs will take Hightower at No. 11. But if they do, I won't be upset one bit. The guy is going to step in and be a reason you win the game, not just a part of it.
