The Kansas City Chiefs are likely looking to add to their defensive front seven with one or even two selections in the first three to four picks in the upcoming 2012 NFL Draft. In the first round at No. 11, many mock drafts have them taking Michael Brockers of LSU or Dontari Poe of Memphis. Another name they are now linked with is Chandler Jones of Syracuse, a defensive end who could be enticing in the second round perhaps.
It’s clear he’s making his way up draft boards at this point (as defensive linemen usually do with just weeks to go before the draft). The Chiefs aren’t the only team in on Jones either.
“Jones says he has drawn interest from teams that use 4-3 and 3-4 schemes – he had workouts with the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars among others,” writes Tyler Dunne. “Jones also met with the Green Bay Packers at the scouting combine.”
Jones is 6-5, 265 lbs. and the National Football Post’s Wes Bunting says he loves his frame at the pro level. However he cautions a bit when he writes, “I love his size and length. But I worry about defensive lineman who play upright, lack a great get off burst and struggle to change directions. I don’t see him as a big time pass rusher. But if he improves his pad level he could mature into a potential starting option.”
Last year, Jones had 38.5 tackles, 4.5 sacks and 1 interception.
