NFL Draft 2012: Chiefs Visit With Texas A&M RB Cyrus Gray For Personal Workout

As the Kansas City Chiefs continue to scout out possibilities for the future of the running back position in the 2012 NFL Draft, they’ve already spent some time with promising back Doug Martin from Boise State and now they turn their attention to another mid-round possibility in Cyrus Gray. Aaron Wilson reports that the Chiefs have held a private workout with Gray in recent days.

Gray ran 198 times last year for 1,045 yards and 12 touchdowns. He scored 30 times in his Texas A&M career, and is considered to be a third or fourth round selection. Drafttek questions his size and says there are limitations, but he could project as an every down back and compares him to Thomas Jones.

Wes Bunting has him as the eighth best running back available and doesn’t believe he has the same possibilities as Drafttek. Instead he writes, “An instinctive, well put together back with natural running skills inside. Isn’t ever going to be a cowbell back at the next level and isn’t overly dynamic in the open field. But can be productive in a two back system in the NFL.”

The Chiefs are looking to potentially add some long-term potential given the one-year contract Peyton Hillis signed and Jamaal Charles’ return from a torn ACL.
