Don Banks has at least the first two selections correct. Andrew Luck is headed to the Indianapolis Colts. Robert Griffin III is also headed to the Washington Redskins. From there, it’s anyone’s guess who wants to make a mock for the 2012 NFL Draft as to where Minnesota, or the rest of the field, could go in tonight’s first round action. In his latest mock, Don Banks has the Chiefs going with David DeCastro to make it two Stanford products in the first 11 choices.
The Chiefs pick at No. 11, and in Don Banks seventh mock of the draft season, he has the team solidifying their line with the best guard available.
“I wouldn’t dismiss the possibility that the first-round trading game starts with the Chiefs slot,” writes Banks, “but if K.C. sticks, DeCastro represents the kind of solid, no-brainer selection that will never come back to haunt general manager Scott Pioli. I keep hearing the Chiefs could move down and target Dontari Poe, but I’m not buying that theory because Poe remains someone who will require some patience in terms of his NFL development.”
DeCastro and Eric WInston would make some incredible additions to a line that struggled to open up the running game and protect quarterback Matt Cassel last season. That would instantly turn around the Chiefs line to a major strength on an offense near the bottom of the league. With the return of Tony Moeaki and Jamaal Charles as well as new signings like Kevin Boss and Peyton Hillis, the results could be remarkable in the turnaround.
