Kellen Winslow Now Possible Trade Target For Chiefs, Other Teams Seeking Tight End

For those teams who have been checking in on a potential tight end addition this late in the offseason, another new candidate might have entered the picture. Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Kellen Winslow has made it known today that he will not be with his team next year.

The Chiefs already kicked the tires on Dallas Clark several days ago and brought in veteran Martin Rucker, but with expanded rosters, competition is going to mean that many of the players who sign deals will also eventually get cut. The Chiefs clearly feel that they could upgrade the tight end position in a meaningful way with another veteran addition.

The core of the position for the team seems set, but that's only in an ideal world. Both Tony Moeaki and Kevin Boss are solid tight ends, with a high ceiling for Moeaki especially. However, both were not healthy last season and Moeaki has durability concerns that go back to his college days at Iowa. If the Chiefs want to make a move, they at least have another candidate out there.

It's possible the Chiefs have no interest, or anyone else for that matter, in giving up an asset for him. If Winslow is cut, then it wouldn't surprise to see the Chiefs at least check in on Winslow.

Winslow had 75 catches for 763 yards and 2 touchdowns in 2011.
