Javier Arenas Speaks Highly Of Chiefs New Special Teams Coach Tom McMahon

One of the newer faces on the Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff is special teams coach Tom McMahon, who came over this offseason after three seasons with the St. Louis Rams. It's clear after OTAs and a first week of training camp that players are hopeful the change is a good thing for the team.

"We are excited about him," said cornerback Javier Arenas. "He's a great guy and knows exactly what he is doing. I know what everyone is doing on the team as far as returning, the front line guys and the up guys on punt team. I know everything that is going on, so I can see the field better. He is helping me understand that."

Earlier this offseason, head coach Romeo Crennel praised his work ethic and said he was glad to add him.

"I am pleased to add Tom to our staff," said Head Coach Romeo Crennel. "He is a diligent worker and passionate coach. It is a great addition for us."

Now it's a matter of moving forward as a unit and to begin to make a significant impact on the outcome of the game through special teams play. While the Chiefs have decent return averages, the Chiefs didn't have a single return for a touchdown in 2011 and only had one the year before.

"It is frustrating to know that the average is good, but that is not something we aim for," said Arenas. "We aim for exceeding all expectations on special teams. The goal is to score as many times as we can. We have to do everything we can to do everything right, and that starts here in training camp. We are doing all of the little nicks and picks to get everything put together so it can all lay out smoothly."
