The Kansas City Chiefs looked inept on Sunday, committing six turnovers in a disastrous 37-20 loss to the San Diego Chargers.
Quarterback Matt Cassel was responsible for three of those turnovers, throwing three interceptions, while completing just 24-of-42 passes on the day.
Joel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride believes benching Cassel is now an option – even though it might not be the best one:
Bench Cassel, start Brady Quinn
A possibility, I suppose. I wouldn't be totally opposed to it even though this would reek of a move aimed at change for change's sake. Really, though, maybe that's what the Chiefs need.
I do not think that Quinn is better than Cassel. The only argument you can make here is that maybe Quinn wouldn't turn it over as much as Cassel. The Chiefs have built their roster to hide the quarterback so if Quinn relieves Cassel and simply doesn't turn it over as often then I can see the argument that the Chiefs could get better with Quinn.
This would obviously be a short-term type of move because Quinn has not demonstrated that he's a good NFL quarterback.
Cassel will likely continue to start for the Chiefs at least for another week, but he is certainly playing for his job from here on out.

Other than a large handful of players already on their injury report, the Kansas City Chiefs were able to stay relatively healthy during their 37-20 loss to the San Diego Chargers.
Tight end Kevin Boss, defensive end Glenn Dorsey and running back Peyton Hillis were the three biggest names to miss Sunday's game, while wide receiver Dwayne Bowe was able to get in the game despite being listed as Questionable on the injury report.
The Chiefs website's official injury report contains a fairly large laundry list of different players right now, with most of them hovering around Questionable or Probable. The majority of the players, including wide receiver Dexter McCluster and defensive back Kendrick Lewis, participated at least some of the time in Kansas City's final practice before Sunday's game. Most of the players on the list will likely have improved statuses before Kansas City's next game on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.

Jamaal Charles' 37-yard touchdown run was about the only highlight for the Chiefs in the first half, as the Chargers lead 27-6. Besides that TD run, Kansas City had three turnovers and two punts on their first six series.
On the Chiefs' first possession following the Charles TD run, Donald Butler intercepted Matt Cassel and returned it 21 yards to the house. Cassel has struggled mightily against the Chargers D through the first two quarters, throwing for 56 yards with three picks.
Opposing QB Phillip Rivers has had a very efficient half, completing 14 of 18 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown.
Charles has been the only bright spot on what looks like a flat Kansas City roster. He has seven rushes for 46 yards and a TD. Fantasy owners will be pleased with WR Dwayne Bowe, who has six receptions for 79 yards.

The good news is that Jamaal Charles did an eerie impersonation of Barry Sanders today against the San Diego Chargers on his way to an unbelievable touchdown run. Unfortunately for the Kansas City Chiefs, the Chargers are controlling everything else early at Arrowhead. Currently down 27-6, the Chiefs only has this touchdown in their pocket so far. But at least it looks this great:

The Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers will play at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday afternoon, and it's clear that most NFL experts believe the Chargers will win. However the experts at USA Today are not so certain and have their panel of six analysts split evenly between the six of them.
It's an interesting sign that the Chiefs could be on the verge of some positive recognition. The Chiefs, after all, were a solid choice for playoff darkhorse before the season began. However early harsh losses to the Atlanta Falcons and Buffalo Bills not only knocked out the momentum from the Chiefs early season hopes but it also ruined their reputation early with those who were on the bandwagon.
A turnaround moment did appear in week three against the New Orleans Saints, however. The Chiefs rallied back from a late 24-6 deficit to take the win on the road over Drew Brees and the Saints. The offense started moving. The defense held on. It was a nice team win for a franchise in need of it.
The Saints, however, still don't have their first win of the season and so it's hard to tell whether that win should mean much in the eyes of experts. If the Chiefs can even their record today against the Chargers and take a slice of first place in the AFC West, expect the Chiefs to continue to rise again in NFL predictions columns.

Former Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Jared Gaither could face his old team on Sunday as a member of the San Diego Chargers. The 6'9, 355-pound tackle, who was released by the Chiefs in the middle of 2011, returned to the Chargers' practice field on Wednesday for the first time in nearly two months, according to Bolts From The Blue.
The sixth-year player out of Maryland signed a hefty four-year, $24.6 million deal with the Chargers last season, but has spent all but what would equal one full practice dealing with back spasms and doctor's visits. The Chiefs let him go last year after he proved to be injury prone and his work ethic seemed questionable. There could be a pattern developing here.
The Chargers porous offensive line and poor pass protection is in dire need of help, and if Gaither can get himself healthy and motivated, he could be just the boost the team needs to preserve the health and sanity of quarterback Philip Rivers, who has been sacked six times in the team's first three games.
Kickoff for Sunday's game is scheduled for noon CT at Arrowhead Stadium and will be televised on CBS.

Jamaal Charles' monster game against the New Orleans Saints in Week 3 prompted a lot of praise across NFL circles, but few will likely have better things to say about the running back than his offensive linemen.
Charles rushed for 233 yards in leading the Kansas City Chiefs to the road victory over the Saints. His teammates praised his performance this week in comments provided by the team.
"It's a great feeling right now," offensive lineman Jon Asamoah said. "You see Jamaal have the success he did and winning the game, it was amazing. To be able to shuffle the way we did during the game and still stay consistent just shows how close of a group we are."
Ryan Lilja said the game was the pick-me-up the offensive line needed.
"We wanted to win," Lilja said. "I think we all wanted to win badly, we needed a win and we had such a bad taste in our mouths that guys were just fighting. It was all sides of the ball and it was fun to be a part of. There's not a lot of quit in these guys and you saw that the other day. Coming off two games where we got our teeth kicked in - one at home - it's a tough pill to swallow, so guys were ready to play."

The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off their first win, a thrilling overtime road victory over the New Orleans Saints. The San Diego Chargers, meanwhile, are fresh off getting embarrassed at home by the Atlanta Falcons, but are still in first place in the AFC West at 2-1.
With the two teams set to meet Sunday in Kansas CIty and seemingly going opposite directions, it's not hard to see how a panel of experts could be split on their predictions.
CBS Sports' eight-man NFL predictions panel is split down the middle on Sunday's divisional showdown at Arrowhead, with four picking the Chiefs to win their second in a row and four picking the Chargers on the road. Pete Prisco, Clark Judge, Mike Freeman and Jason La Canfora all like the Chargers, while Dave Richard, Will Brinson, Josh Katzowitz and Ryan Wilson are all taking the Chiefs.
Sunday's game kicks off at noon and will be televised by CBS.

Coming off their first win of the season, the Kansas City Chiefs host the AFC West division-leading San Diego Chargers in Week 4 on Sunday.
The Chiefs (1-2) overcame an 18-point second-half deficit on the road against the New Orleans Saints to force overtime and win in the extra period, 27-24. Jamaal Charles exploded to lift Kansas City's struggling offense, piling up 233 rushing yards on 33 carries, including a 91-yard touchdown scamper.
Meanwhile, San Diego (2-1) was mauled at home by the Atlanta Falcons, 27-3, as they took their first loss of the season. The Chargers were down 20-0 at the half and never recovered as four turnovers, including two interceptions thrown by quarterback Philip Rivers, doomed comeback hopes.
Elsewhere in the AFC West, the Oakland Raiders (1-2), fresh off of scoring 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to down the Pittsburgh Steelers, 34-31, head to Denver to face Peyton Manning and the Broncos (1-2), who were knocked off at home by the Houston Texans in Week 3, 31-25.

No team tends to do well in power rankings when it starts with a 1-2 record in the NFL. The Kansas City Chiefs in particular had two very bad games at the start of the year to try and forget when they came back to beat the New Orleans Saints at the Superdome on Sunday. They do have talent, specifically in the form of the free-running Jamaal Charles, but haven't been able to put it together early on.
NFL.com's official power rankings have the Chiefs at 24th overall after Week 3's action, and note that despite the slow start to the season, the Chiefs are still definitely in the race for the AFC West:
Resilient performance on the road by a team that was lambasted in this space last week. The key now is to keep the ground momentum going ... and going ... and going ... When Jamaal Charles explodes, it opens up the field for Matt Cassel and gives the defense a chance to rest (as well as something to play for). From an overall standpoint, this team is still very much in the thick of the AFC West madness, especially with both the Chargers and Broncos falling on Sunday.
Week 4 will see the Chiefs taking on the San Diego Chargers in their first AFC West match of the season. At that point, the Chiefs can really start to show if they're going to not just start in the thick of things in the AFC West, but stay in them as the season rolls along.
