Could Jared Gaither surface for Chargers against Chiefs?

Former Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Jared Gaither could face his old team on Sunday as a member of the San Diego Chargers. The 6'9, 355-pound tackle, who was released by the Chiefs in the middle of 2011, returned to the Chargers' practice field on Wednesday for the first time in nearly two months, according to Bolts From The Blue.

The sixth-year player out of Maryland signed a hefty four-year, $24.6 million deal with the Chargers last season, but has spent all but what would equal one full practice dealing with back spasms and doctor's visits. The Chiefs let him go last year after he proved to be injury prone and his work ethic seemed questionable. There could be a pattern developing here.

The Chargers porous offensive line and poor pass protection is in dire need of help, and if Gaither can get himself healthy and motivated, he could be just the boost the team needs to preserve the health and sanity of quarterback Philip Rivers, who has been sacked six times in the team's first three games.

Kickoff for Sunday's game is scheduled for noon CT at Arrowhead Stadium and will be televised on CBS.
