Chiefs' Brian Daboll Discusses John Abraham, Falcons Defense

The Kansas City Chiefs will need a strong effort on the offensive side of the ball when they open the season at home on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Chiefs defense will have its hands full trying to slow down Falcons' quarterback Matt Ryan and his receivers, Roddy White and Julio Jones. The Chiefs' offense is preparing to pull their weight as they try to get off to a good start in Week 1. New offensive coordinator Brian Daboll will try to counter an aggressive Atlanta defense that he expects to bring plenty of pressure on the Chiefs.

"They can really get after people," Daboll said on Friday. "Start with (John) Abraham who's done it a long time. I've played against him a few times, and he's a champ to prepare for. (Ray) Edwards is a good run stuffer, and (Jonathan) Babineaux high inside."

Daboll also praised the rest of the Falcons defense without giving up any thoughts on how he plans to have quarterback Matt Cassell and the rest of his offense attack Falcons.

"And then you have these backers with (Sean) Weatherspoon who had 113 tackles last year," Daboll said. "He's aggressive, flies to the ball. (Stephen) Nicholas, and then you're talking about their back end. It's pretty good with (Brent) Grimes there outside at corner who can really get up and play zone. Dunta Robinson is another who can cover and play zone. You have them and you have Mike, so you have to do your best to prepare for a good football team."

With Daboll calling the plays for the first time, Kansas City will have the advantage of the unknown in Week 1 as Atlanta won't know how Daboll plans to use Jamaal Charles, Cassell and his big targets Dwayne Bowe and Kevin Boss.
