Chiefs Must Play Strong Red Zone Defense Against Falcons

Stay connected for news and updates

The Kansas City Chiefs host the Atlanta Falcons Sunday afternoon and the Falcons bring with them a versatile offense that is going to test the Chiefs early and often.

The Falcons' offense features perhaps the league's most explosive wide receiver tandem in Roddy White and Julio Jones, not to mention one of the greatest tight ends ever in Tony Gonzales and a Pro Bowl running back in Michael Turner. Friday, Chiefs linebacker coach Gary Gibbs said the best way to keep the Falcons' offense in check is to be aggressive up front, especially in the red zone.

"You certainly have to play good red zone defense against this team. I think our crowd can really help. The crowd can help us in the red zone and the crowd can help us on third down," Gibbs said. "We've got to make some plays. That's always the key when you play a good offense that's so diverse and so explosive."

The Chiefs' defense will get a needed boost against the Falcons' offense. While cornerback Brandon Flowers and linebacker Derrick Johnson are officially listed as questionable, both are expected to be on the field Sunday.
