Tony Gonzalez Can Make NFL History During Chiefs-Falcons Game

Tony Gonzalez is back at his original home in Arrowhead Stadium today as his Atlanta Falcons take on the Kansas City Chiefs in the season opener for both teams. Perhaps it's a fitting place for Gonzalez to potentially break into the NFL record books.

Gonzalez is already in the NFL record books in several categories among tight ends, but he has the chance today to break into the top 10 all-time receivers in NFL history. He needs 44 yards to tie former St. Louis Rams wide receiver Torry Holt, so a 45-yard performance today will place him as the only non-wideout in the top ten.

Gonzalez now has 13,338 yards receiving in the NFL, most of which came with his time with the Chiefs. To come back to Arrowhead to earn such an honor as a top ten receiver in NFL history is fitting for a certain Hall of Famer who deserves all of the attention and accolades that he can get.

Gonzalez can also conceivably break into the top seven by season's end. With 700 yards this season, he can eclipse James Lofton's mark of 14,004 and settle into the No. 7 slot. Jerry Rice is the all-time leader with 22,895 yards.
