Kansas City finally got the bats working on Tuesday evening as they had 11 hits, but in the end it was the Toronto Blue Jays outscoring the Royals 8-5 to even up the series in Kansas City. With the win, Toronto improves to 31-30, while the Royals fall to 26-35 overall.
Toronto got things started early scoring three runs in the first inning against Royals starter Vin Mazzaro who had been recalled from AAA Omaha. Mazzaro finished with five innings pitched, allowing six runs on eight hits. With the loss he fell to 0-2 in his two starts with Kansas City this season.
Kyle Drabek was't much better for Toronto, but the Blue Jays starter did pick up the win moving to 4-4, as he allowed five runs on nine hits over 5.1 innings. Drabek also had four wild pitches on the evening.
After falling behind 6-2, the Royals got closer scoring two runs in the fifth on RBI ground outs by Jeff Francoeur and Billy Butler. The Royals then drew to within one at 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth on a Melky Cabrera single.
Toronto added two more runs in the eight inning against Royals reliever Tim Collins as catcher J.P. Arencibia homered to left, scoring both he and Adam Lind. Lind had a two-run home run of his own in the first inning.
Leading the way for the Royals was Francoeur who was 2-for-5 with 3 RBI, while Eric Hosmer had two more hits and a walk to raise his season slash line to .310/.348/.496
