Eric Hosmer's Ninth Inning Home Run Gives Royals 2-1 Victory

Eric Hosmer provided the big hit on Friday evening at Target Field, as his two-out two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning gave Kansas City a 2-1 lead in which they held on for the come from behind win. With the victory, Kansas City improves to 38-55 and has split their two games since the All-Star break.

The Royals got a solid start from Luke Hochevar who again looked dominant early in an outing. He started to waiver some in the middle innings as normal, but this time he righted the ship as he went seven innings allowing one run on three hits.

Minnesota scored their run in the fourth inning when Ben Revere scored from third on a wild pitch from Hochevar. Unfortunately Hoch couldn't get enough help from the Kansas City bats to earn a victory. Tim Collins who came in to pitch the eighth inning, picked up the win to move to 4-4 this year. He walked a batter and struck out one as well in his inning of work.

Nick Blackburn was was as equally impressive for Minnesota, giving up just four hits in seven innings of shutout baseball. 

After Melky Cabrera walked to lead off the ninth again Twins closer Matt Capps, Capps retired the next two batters before Hosmer went deep for his ninth home run of the season. Joakim Soria pitched the bottom of the ninth to pick up his 16th save.
