Kyle Davies Falls to 1-9 With Loss; Luis Mendoza Tosses No-Hitter For Omaha

Another Kyle Davies loss.

To his credit, Davies pitched one of his better games of the season, but the Royals were still left with another mark in the loss column. Davies went 5.1 innings, allowing four runs (two earned), on five hits. He struck out nine while walking three.

Kansas City now moves to 20 games under .500 for the first time season and are 18-41 in their last 59 games. 

Highlighting the effort for the Royals was Billy Butler who was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. His two hits were both doubles, giving him 24 for the season. Alcides Escobar also picked up two hits and he save his average continue to improve, now batting .257 on the year.

The story for the evening took place in Memphis this evening, as Luis Mendoza threw a 118-pitch complete game no-hitter for Omaha on the road against the Redbirds. It was the first no-hitter for Omaha since 1988, and Mendoza's second career no-hitter in the minors.

The Stormchasers won 4-0 and improved their record to 53-43. They are now in first place by four games.

On the season Mendoza is 7-3 with a 2.30 ERA in 25 games (10 starts). Mendoza was involved in the Pacific Coast League All-Star Game last week.
