For the second evening in a row, the offense of the Boston Red Sox was as good as advertised in a 12-5 rout of the Kansas City Royals.
Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia went deep back-to-back in the bottom of the first inning and David Ortiz's fourth inning grand slam helped Boston move to 64-38 with the victory. All three home runs came off Royals starter Bruce Chen.
Kansas City briefly held a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning as rookie Eric Hosmer hit a three-run homer on top of the green monster against Red Sox starter John Lackey. Unfortunately Boston would go on to score the next 10 runs of the game.
The Royals would finally score again in the fifth on a long Billy Butler home run to left, his ninth of the season.
Rookie Nathan Adcock would save Kansas City from further embarrassment as he relieved Chen and pitched the final four innings allowing just two runs on six hits. Even though Chen lasted just four innings the Royals certainly didn't want to dig far into the bullpen after even using reserve outfielder Mitch Maier on the mound in Tuesday's loss.
Alex Gordon and Butler each lead the way with three hits for Kansas City, while Hosmer collected four RBI on two hits.
