The final game of the regular season carries no real weight for the Kansas City Royals or Detroit Tigers.

There is no real significance in the standings for Game 162 between the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals on Wednesday. With their win over the Kansas City in Game 1 of the series, the Tigers clinched the American League Central title, and the Royals have been out of the playoff picture and stuck at the bottom of the division for months.

Really, the best that Kansas City can hope do is get a series win and a two-game winning streak to close out the season. The Royals won, 4-2, on Tuesday. If they can hold down Miguel Cabrera, they could potentially spoil his triple crown aspirations, as well. But considering Cabrera's hot streak, that seems unlikely.

Luis Mendoza (8-9, 4.36 ERA) will take the mound for Kansas City in the rubber game of the series.

First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. CT at Kauffman Stadium. It will be televised on Fox Sports KC.
