The Kansas City Royals honored Kauffman Stadium parking lot employees Wednesday before their game against the Tigers for their role in attending to a shooting that critically injured a fellow employee last month.

A Sept. 14 shooting outside the stadium left Renee Bruce critically injured and a group of six employees kept her and others safe while medical personnel came to Bruce's aid. The gunman took his own life. Royals president Dan Glass presented certificates to the six employees: Kevin Buford, Nancy Cubine, Simon Gray, Pat Hankins, Doug Hatch and Lora Lord. Royals players Alex Gordon and Jeff Francoeur presented Bruce's daughter and son with a signed bat.

The team has also set up a fund to help pay for Bruce's medical expenses, contributions to which can be made at the Royals' website.

The incident occurred just a few hours before a scheduled Kansas City Royals game against the Anaheim Angels last month.
