Justin Verlander didn't get the best of the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday. Jonathan Sanchez didn't quite go toe-to-toe with the reigning MVP and Cy Young winner, but the Royals still managed to scratch out a 3-2 victory on Wednesday afternoon.
Kansas City jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning when Eric Hosmer doubled, scoring Jarrod Dyson. Jeff Francoeur grounded out in the sixth, plating Alex Gordon and giving the Royals a 2-0 lead.
Jonathan Sanchez, who started for the Royals, did not factor into the decision. Sanchez lasted just five innings, but only gave up one hit while walking two and striking out two.
Kansas City will return home to Kauffman Stadium on Thursday to open up a four-game set with the New York Yankees.
