The Royals shutout the A's 2-0 in the first game of a three-game series.
The Kansas City Royals used four pitchers to shutout the Oakland Athletics 2-0. The Royals scored both of their runs in the bottom of the first inning off of Bartolo Colon. Royals shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt hit a RBI double to knock in Alex Gordon, and the second run came from a Mike Moustakas single which scored Betancourt.
Felipe Paulino got the win for the Royals by pitching six shut out innings, allowed three hits, three walks and struck out five batters.
The Royals relief staff came in and continued the shut out and allowed no hits over the final three innings with a combined effort from Kelvin Herrera, Greg Holland and then Jonathan Broxton came in and closed out the game and earned his 12th save of the year.
