Royals Vs. Rays Final Score: KC Completes Sweep With 5-4 Win

The Kansas City Royals completed the sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday afternoon, with a 5-4 win over Tampa Bay.

Everett Teaford started for the Royals, but only lasted five innings. Teaford gave up two runs on four hits, while walking three and striking out five. Teaford did not factor into the decision.

Kansas City jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning, as Mike Moustakas launched his 13th home run of the season off of the talented Rays starter, Matt Moore.

Alcides Escobar added a solo homer of his own in the third to make it 2-0 Kansas City. Yuniesky Betancourt added a two-run single in the fifth inning, giving KC a 4-0 lead.

Tampa Bay, though, would battle back.

The Rays scored twice in the sixth inning, on singles by Jeff Keppinger and Ben Zobrist. Zobrist was back at it in the eighth, tripling in Carlos Pena and Keppinger, tying the game at 4-4.

With one swing of the bat in the bottom half of the eighth, Billy Butler untied the game, launching his 15th homer of the year, and giving Kansas City a 5-4 lead.

Aaron Crow recorded the last two outs of the eighth to earn the win, while Jon Broxton closed the game out for his 19th save of the year.

Kansas City is off on Thursday, and will open up a series in Minnesota against the Twins on Friday night.
