Butler came up for his first at-bat in the seventh inning to fans chanting his name, but grounded out to third base on a 1-2 count.
Butler was a part of headlines during Monday's Home Run Derby when Kansas City fans booed American League captain Robinson Cano for not selecting Butler for the event. The boos continued for Cano during the early part of Tuesday's game, while Butler received a long ovation during player introductions. He also was cheered after his groundout.
Butler and the American League have a long way to go, currently trailing 8-0 in the seventh inning.
