With the trade deadline 15 days away, the Royals need to evaluate who will make room for top prospect Wil Myers.
Neither the Kansas City Royals nor Seattle Mariners are likely going anywhere this season and as the two teams meet at Kauffman Stadium this week, the focus is on finding out what pieces to keep before the trade deadline.
The week ahead is very important for the Royals outfield. With Wil Myers waiting in the wings, the Royals will look for players like Lorenzo Cain and Jeff Francoeur to give them a reason to keep them in their outfield positions.
Those bats will first get a crack at Seattle's Jason Vargas (8-7, 4.07 ERA), who is on the trade market himself. Francouer is four-for-nine in his career against Vargas.
Opposing him will be Jonathan Sanchez (1-5, 6.75 ERA), who is hoping the second half of the season treats him better than the first. This is Sanchez's first career start against Seattle.
First pitch is schedule for 7:10 CT, and the game can be seen on Fox Sports Kansas City.
