Home Run Derby 2012: Jose Bautista Leads 4 Into Second Round

Stay connected for news and updates

The first round of the 2012 Home Run Derby is in the books from Kauffman Stadium. Jose Bautista, Carlos Beltran, Mark Trumbo and Prince Fielder have all advanced to the second round.

Bautista led everyone with 11 homers, including six with nine outs and the gold balls coming his way. He averaged 418 feet per blast. Former Royal Carlos Beltran and Angels young star Mark Trumbo each hit seven. Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder hit five.

But the highlight of the round was defending champ Robinson Cano, who was heavily booed by the Kansas City crowd during introductions and his round. Local fans were upset that Royals designated hitter Billy Butler was left off the derby roster. The fans definitely had an effect, as Cano went homerless and failed to advance.
