Jeremy Guthrie Looks To Extend Dominant August Run For Royals

Stay connected for news and updates

Kansas City Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie takes the mound against Boston on Saturday looking to continue what's been a dominant August for him so far.

According to MLB.com's Vinnie Dubar, Guthrie has posted a 2-1 record with .94 ERA so far this month. In his last start against the White Sox, he had a no hitter in the seventh inning before Paul Konerko hit an infield single that many believe was an error. Guthrie's August has been almost the exact opposite of his July -- when he finished the month with a 6.68 ERA.

He now faces a Red Sox team he's very familiar with. Guthrie, a former member of the Baltimore Orioles, has made 17 career starts against the Red Sox. His record in those starts is 3-8 with a 4.50 ERA.

Guthrie is scheduled to face Josh Beckett, but his start is in limbo due to a potential trade between the Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers that would send Beckett, Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto to Los Angeles for first baseman James Loney and prospects.
