Royals Vs. Red Sox Game Recap: Kansas City Prevails In Extra Innings, 10-9

The Kansas City Royals beat the Boston Red Sox 10-9 in 12 innings on Saturday night at Fenway Park.

The Royals were down 9-3 after four innings, despite taking an early 3-0 lead against Red Sox starter Aaron Cook. The Royals would tie the game in the seventh thanks to a six-run offensive outburst, with the game heading to extra innings after the Red Sox failed to take advantage of several go-ahead opportunities in the eighth and ninth innings.

With two outs in the top of the 12th, and Jeff Francoeur and Eric Hosmer at third and second, respectively, Tony Abreu drilled an 0-2 pitch into left field to score Francoeur and give the Royals the 10-9 lead.

Greg Holland would take out all three Boston batters in the bottom of the 12th inning to secure the save and give the Royals the win.

Both teams would need eight pitchers each to get through the game with Kansas City starter Jeremy Guthrie lasting just 2.2 innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits before being lifted in the third.
