Luis Mendoza has gone down with a throat illness, which has jumbled up the pitching rotation for the Kansas City Royals. He was scheduled to take Wednesday's start against the Chicago White Sox against Chris Sale, but instead the start went to Bruce Chen. The illness also forced Jeremy Guthrie to slide up from Friday to Thursday on the schedule.

Royals manager Ned Yost doesn't know when Mendoza will be returning, and it may force a complete overhaul of the rotation for a cycle if he's not back in the next few days:

"[Mendoza] came in today and was feeling horrible," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "His throat was all infected. We think it's strep throat. We sent him to the doctor."

"We may just skip his whole turn, I don't know. We've got to wait and see," Yost said.

If Mendoza stays out, it could give rookie Jake Odorizzi his first ever Major League start on Saturday or Sunday.
