Royals Pitcher Francisley Bueno To Start Suspension

Reliever Francisley Bueno has finally started to serve a suspension from Major League Baseball that he was issued four years ago. In 2008 with the Atlanta Braves, Bueno threw a fastball just over the head of Alfonso Soriano of the Chicago Cubs and was ejected. He was handed the suspension almost immediately, but never got to serve it:

He was issued a three-game suspension the following day, but also optioned to Triple-A. He didn't return to the Majors until this season and has appeared in 10 games for the Royals.

Bueno, 31, appealed the suspension and got it trimmed to two games. He is eligible to return Wednesday in Minnesota.

His first game suspended was the Royals' series finale against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, a game that the Royals won, 2-1, in 10 innings of play.

Royals Refuse To Shut Down Young Pitchers

With teams all over baseball shutting down their young pitchers as the season rolls through September, Royals manager Ned Yost said that he has no such plans with the four young pitchers currently driving the Kansas City bullpen. According to the team's website, Yost believes that pushing young players through September is key to their development:

"Like any manager, you worry about their health and giving them too much of a workload early. But we are into September. It's all part of them learning how to pitch into September, too, in big games. So yeah, there's going to be times where you're going to be a little fatigued. So what? You've got to get after it."

The Royals certainly aren't playing for a championship this season, leaving many worried that Yost will burn out Tim Collins (22 years old), Kelvin Herrera (22), Aaron Crow (25) and Greg Holland (26). All four pitchers have been used extensively this season -- many times in the same game -- to help shut down teams from the sixth inning on. Many times Yost plays them multiple games in a row, something that is concerning to those worried about the health of the pitchers' arms.

Still, Yost is making it known that even if the Royals aren't battling for a playoff spot he wants his young pitchers to know what that feels like over the course of a long season:

"But when you're battling for a championship -- the whole August, September and going into October, it's going to be like that. You've got to learn what it feels like, you've go to learn that, 'Hey, I can get through this.'"

Royals Vs. White Sox Final Score: KC Edges Chicago In 10 Innings, 2-1

Mike Moustakas and Jeff Francoeur hit RBI singles in the top of the 10th inning to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox. Moustakas broke open a scoreless tie and Francoeur provided necessary insurance, as the White Sox scored a run of their own in the bottom of the 10th. Reliever Kelvin Herrera earned his third win of the season for the Royals, and even though it was a bit dicey, Greg Holland picked up his 13th save.

Starter Jeremy Guthrie pitched well for Kansas City but was forced to take a no-decision. The righty allowed just six hits in eight innings and struck out four. Hector Santiago started for Chicago and gave up three hits and three walks in four innings. He struck out eight.

After the Royals rallied for two two-out runs in the top of the 10th, the White Sox made a rally of their own in the bottom of the inning. Gordon Beckham hit a one-out RBI double to pull Chicago within a run. With the potential tying run at third and winning run at second, Alejandro De Aza and Ray Olmedo both struck out swinging.

Royals Vs. White Sox Final Score: Kansas City's Comeback Falls Short, Lose 6-5 To Chicago

The Kanas City Royals scored three runs over the final two innings, but it was not enough as they fell to the Chicago White Sox 5-4 on Saturday afternoon. The Royals trailed 5-1 heading into the top of the eighth inning, and that is when they started their comeback attempt. Alcides Escobar got the scoring going when he hit a RBI double, and he nearly knocked in two runs but Lorenzo Cain was thrown out at the plate.

In the ninth inning the Royals scored on back-to-back singles to make it a one-run game. Jarrod Dyson came into pinch run and he proceeded to steal second. Cain came up to the plate with two outs, but he struck out to end the game.

The Royals were hurt early on the White Sox had a trio of home runs by Dayan Viciedo, Tyler Flowers and Paul Konerko, all of which came off of starting pitcher Bruce Chen. Chen ended up getting the loss as he gave up all five runs during his six innings of work.

Royals Enjoy Lorenzo Cain's First Multi-HR Game

Kansas City Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain hit two home runs against the Chicago White Sox on Friday night. It was Cain's first multi-homer game of his career, and it came as a bit of a surprise considering how he began the game, as he told MLB.com's Cash Kruth.

Cain struck out in his first two at-bats, and didn't exactly look great doing it, against White Sox starter Francisco Liriano. However, he bounced back in his third at-bat, blasting a hanging slider from Liriano over the left field wall to give the Royals a 3-2 lead.

"The night definitely started off rough for me," Cain said with a laugh. "But I guess it's not where you start; it's where you finish."

And Cain certainly finished well, as he took advantage of another slider that backed up, this time against White Sox reliever Addison Reed in the ninth inning. Cain shot that one out to left-center, and it cleared the wall for a two-run homer to give the Royals a 7-5 lead, which would ultimately hold up as the final score.

Royals Vs. White Sox: Kansas City Continues Series As Spoilers Against Chicago

The Kansas City Royals hope to keep making life difficult for the teams trying to win the AL Central title, as they continue their role as a spoiler against the Chicago White Sox Saturday at U.S. Cellular Field.

Lorenzo Cain's two-run home run in the ninth inning Friday helped the Royals beat the White Sox, 7-5, keeping the AL Central leaders just one game ahead of the Tigers (who later lost on a walkoff in Anaheim).

Bruce Chen (10-11, 5.28 ERA) is expected to get the start for the Royals. The left-hander has been inconsistent as of late and is coming off of a loss to the Texas Rangers in his last start, during which he gave up six runs along with four home runs in six innings.

The White Sox counter with left-hander Chris Sale (15-6, 2.93 ERA). Sale has lost two games in a row, including his last start when he gave up four runs on six hits in six innings during a loss to Detroit.

The games is scheduled to start at 3:05 p.m. CT and will be televised on Fox.

Royals Vs. White Sox Game Recap: Lorenzo Cain's Ninth Inning Homer Lifts Kansas City

Kansas City Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain led the charge on Friday with two hits and three RBIs, including a two-run homer in the top of the 9th, to defeat the Chicago White Sox 7-5.

The Royals had pulled out to a 5-3 lead in the 6th, but Chicago short stop Alexei Ramirez tied the game at five with a two-run homer moments later.

Kelvin Harris picked up his eleventh win of the season, while Greg Holland converted his twelfth save this year.

The loss went to Addison Reed, but Chicago's pitching struggled throughout the game. Starter Francisco Liriano allowed six hits, five runs, and four walks in five innings of work.

Kansas City will face the White Sox in Chicago again on Saturday in the second of a three game series. Chicago maintains a half game lead over the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central.

Jarrod Dyson Injury: Royals OF Frustrated By Muscle Strain

Kansas City Royals outfielder Jarrod Dyson is frustrated that his shoulder injury is limiting him from getting significant playing time, according to the team's website.

"I'm kind of frustrated about that, but I've got to stay positive in the head and hope to overcome this little bump in the road," Dyson said. "It's just frustrating, because it seems like every time I get a chance to play every day or whatever, something happens. Like in Baltimore, I was going good and messed my ankle up on one swing and it took me out for a couple days."

Dyson had hoped to be using the remainder of this season to prove himself to the Royals for next season. Instead he'll be spending his time likely limited to pinch-running duty for the rest of 2012. Dyson has been hampered by a strained lat muscle under his right shoulder that occurred during a collision with the wall in Boston on Aug. 27.

The outfielder had enjoyed an eight-game hitting streak before the injury, and has played in just two games since then, pinch-running in both appearances.

Dyson has said he can swing the bat yet is unable to throw, despite his shoulder pain improving each day. He was hitting .270 on the season with no home runs and nine RBIs.

Luis Mendoza Hopes To Continue Success Against White Sox

Luis Mendoza will be taking the mound for the Kansas City Royals as they start their series against the Chicago White Sox on Friday, and he's probably the most likely candidate for success in the series.

Mendoza has started three games this season against the Sox and pitched in four. Though his record is only 2-2, he has a solid 2.96 ERA from those four games. In his last time out against the Sox, he threw a solid two-run outing with six strikeouts.

Chicago has gone 4-8 against the Royals this year, so they won't be too pleased to see the best pitcher the Royals have had against them coming up first. They are still in first place in the AL Central, but the Detroit Tigers continue to close in with every loss.
