Kansas vs. Baylor: Jayhawks, Bears square off in Big 12 battle

Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

The Jayhawks offense hasn't scored more than 17 points in any of its five conference losses, while the Bears have allowed a combined 210 points in their four conference losses.

With a loss to the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, the Kansas Jayhawks lost their seventh straight game of the season and extended their Big 12 Conference losing streak to 17; yet, there's reason for optimism, as they have come increasingly close to winning a game and snapping the losing streak. With redshirt freshman Michael Cummings now firmly in control of the starting quarterback position instead of senior Dayne Crist, the Jayhawks gave Texas all they could handle.

On Saturday, Kansas will travel to face a team that has had its season turn for the worst after starting strong. With three straight non-conference victories to open the year, the Baylor Bears earned the No. 24 spot in the AP Poll, but have since lost each of the four conference games that followed. In the four losses, the Bears have allowed a combined 210 points.

The porous Baylor defense will face one of the nation's poorest offenses, though, as the Jayhawks have been unable to score more than 17 points in any of their five conference losses. In the matchup that is the exact opposite of an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object, if Kansas can find success offensively in a conference game for the first time in 2012, it may be able to snap its losing streak.

Yet, despite the seemingly close matchup between two teams that are winless in conference play, Baylor enters the game as 17-point favorites over Kansas. Kickoff at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco, Texas, is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT.
