NCAA Basketball Rankings: Duke, Ohio State And Kansas In AP Poll

As expected, there's been a shakeup in the latest college basketball rankings. The ESPN/USA Today Coaches' poll put Duke at No. 1 and Kansas at No. 2. In the AP poll, Duke is at No. 1 and Ohio State is No. 2. The Kansas Jayhawks come in at No. 3 ahead of Pittsburgh (4), Texas (5), San Diego State (6), BYU (7), Purdue (8), Notre Dame (9) and Arizona (10).

The top four teams last week all lost. KU basketball lost a road game to Kansas State on Monday, Ohio State lost on Sunday to Purdue, Texas dropped a game to Nebraska and Pittsburgh fell to St. John's. Duke, No. 5 last week, made it through the last week unscathed so they claim the top spot in both polls.

Duke received 35 of the 65 first place votes, Ohio State received 10 first place votes and Kansas had five first place votes. Pittsburgh, who remains fourth, received 12 first place votes while Texas, who dropped two spots to fifth, drew one first place vote.

Texas is No. 5 in the AP poll, Missouri is No. 20 and Texas A&M is No. 21 rounding out the list of Big 12 teams. So the Kansas Jayhawks are No. 2 in the Coaches' poll and No. 3 in the AP poll. Check out Rock Chalk Talk to see what KU fans are saying about the news.

College Basketball Rankings: Kansas, Texas In Top Five; Texas A&M, Missouri See No Change

The latest ESPN/USA Today Coaches' poll is out and, as you know, the Kansas Jayhawks lost their hold on the top spot. KU basketball drops from No. 1 to No. 2 while the Duke Blue Devils take the sop spot in the latest NCAA basketball rankings. Texas remains in the top five at No. 5 with a loss to Nebraska on Saturday. Here are the details on the rest of the top five

The rest of the Big 12 didn't see any change.

Texas A&M was ranked No. 17 last week and that's where they stand in the latest edition of the Coaches' poll. Likewise, Missouri saw no change as they remain at No. 21.

Texas A&M is 21-5 on the season and 8-4 in the Big 12. They remain at No. 17 after beating Iowa State and Oklahoma State last week. Coming up for Texas A&M is a Wednesday night game against Oklahoma and going on the road to face Baylor on Saturday.

Missouri beat both Texas Tech and Iowa State in the last week. Neither are particularly impressive wins but it's worth noting that Mizzou finally won a road conference game beating the Cyclones in Ames. Coming up for Missouri is hosting Baylor on Wednesday night and then traveling to Manhattan to take on the Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday.

We're still waiting on the AP poll to be released. With the top four teams in the country losing last week, we're expecting to see some change.

NCAA Basketball Rankings: Duke No. 1, Kansas No. 2 In Coaches' Poll

The Kansas Jayhawks held the top spot in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' poll for one week. The latest NCAA basketball rankings are out and KU basketball is ranked No. 2 behind the No. 1 Duke Blue Devils. Ohio State is No. 3, San Diego State is No. 4, Texas is No. 5 and Pittsburgh is No. 6.

Last week the top six in the Coaches' poll went like this: Kansas, Texas, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Duke and San Diego State.  Last week, the four top teams lost a game. KU lost to Kansas State on Monday, followed by Texas dropping a game in Lincoln to the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Pittsburgh lost to St. John's while Ohio State dropped a Sunday game to Purdue.

Duke, Kansas and Ohio State sport identical 25-2 records, while San Diego State is 27-1, Texas is 23-4 and Pittsburgh is 24-3.

Duke received 19 first-place votes, Kansas had one, Ohio State had four, San Diego State had three, Texas had zero and Pittsburgh had four.

Kansas has a chance to run the table and if they do there will be a couple of more good wins in there. It plays Texas A&M and Missouri (in Columbia) to finish out the season. The Jayhawks host Oklahoma State on Monday night.

Here are the complete NCAA basketball rankings. While we wait for the AP poll to be released, see what KU fans are saying about the news at Rock Chalk Talk.

NCAA Basketball Rankings: Kansas, Ohio State, Texas, Pittsburgh, Duke And No. Team

The latest NCAA basketball rankings will come out on Monday and we can honestly say we have no idea who will be the No. 1 team in the country. Last week, the Kansas Jayhawks claimed the top spot after the Ohio State Buckeyes lost their first game of the season. This week, though, the top four teams in the country all lost.

It started with No. 1 KU basketball, who lost to the Kansas State Wildcats on Big Monday, 84-68. A loss like that and it's hard to envision Kansas continuing on as the No. 1 team in the country.

No. 2 Ohio State went through most of the week unscathed but dropped a Sunday game to Purdue. This is their second loss in as many weeks so you may not want to put them at No. 1 either.

No. 3 Texas has been arguably the hottest team in the country since early January -- well, until their loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday. The Longhorns went into Lincoln with a chance to make a statement to be the No. 1 team and walked away with a 70-67 loss.

No. 4 Pittsburgh appeared to have an argument for No. 1 before they lost to St. John's over the weekend. Can they jump from No. 4 to No. 1 with a loss this week? I don't see it.

No. 5 Duke kept its record clean this week defeating Virginia and Georgia Tech. With the top four teams in the country losing last week, you have to think Duke is  contender for the top spot.

Then there's No. 6 San Diego State who has a strong 27-1 record with just one loss. They could jump up a few spots and they'll be tested quickly with a February 26 matchup with No. 7 BYU.

So who will be No. 1? Your guess is as good as mine because I don't remember a time when so many of the top teams in the country lost in the same week. The AP poll voters will earn their stripes this week.

College Basketball Rankings: Predictions On No. 1

The NCAA basketball rankings will once again see a shakeup as the top four teams in the country all lost this week. That includes, in order from No. 1: Kansas, Ohio State, Texas and Pittsburgh. Duke, at No. 5, stayed clear of a loss as did No. 6 San Diego State.

So who falls into No. 1 now?

That's a huge debate that has no consensus right now. The Kansas Jayhawks have just two losses on the season, as do the Ohio State Buckeyes, so in the big picture I think they have an argument either could be the top team. Texas has four losses now and Pittsburgh has three. Then there's Duke with two losses and San Diego State with one loss in addition to two-loss BYU.

SB Nation's Rock Chalk Talk posted a poll asking its readers who should be No. 1. This is a Kansas blog so there's going to be some homerism there but 31 percent of their readers say Duke should be the new No. 1 team while 30 percent say it should be the Jayhawks. 17 percent say San Diego State and 11 percent say Texas. Pittsburgh and BYU both have one percent of the vote.

So if we believed those poll results, the college basketball rankings will look like this: Duke, Kansas, San Diego State, Texas, Pittsburgh and BYU.
