Bucs CB Aqib Talib Keeping Conversation With Roger Goodell Private

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are hoping that no news is good news, but Raheem Morris’ squad would be quite lucky if Aqib Talib isn’t severely punished in some way by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for his arrest on aggravated assault this offseason. Talib met with Goodell in a meeting yesterday that should go a long way toward establishing what action, if any, that Goodell might take.

The former Kansas Jayhawk is just about as talented as any young cornerback in the league, but his career has been marked by one dramatic incident after another. This latest might be enough to kick him out of the league up to one year and he’ll most likely miss significant time during the upcoming 2011 season. Given the lack of playmakers in the Bucs’ secondary, they have to hope that it’s not too long or else the defense becomes suspect on the back end.

As for what the meeting consisted of, Talib is keeping rather silent on the issue. “I met with the commissioner, but I’m going to keep all the details between me and the commissioner if ya’ll can respect that,” he told the Associated Press. Perhaps the silence is indicative of an order Goodell gave Talib regarding the press, or it could be a sign of bad news and Talib doesn’t want to make it worse than it already is. Fans should find out soon enough with an announcement sometime in the next few days.
