A triple-double from Jeff Withey led Kansas past the upset-minded Spartans on Monday.

The No. 10 Kansas Jayhawks used a triple-double from Jeff Withey to outlast a feisty San Jose State Spartans team on Monday night, defeating the visiting Spartans, 70-57.

Withey scored 16 points on 7-11 shooting to lead Kansas in scoring. In addition to his points, the seven-footer dominated the paint, pulling down 12 rebounds and piling up 12 blocks to turn away the Spartans and secure the win.

San Jose State kept it close all night, and James Kinney gave the Spartans a chance late. With 2:47 remaining, Kinney knocked down three of his 30 points to make it a 64-57 game. But Kinney and Co. couldn't find the tin for the rest of the night, as Withey came up with two of his blocks down the final stretch.

Alongside Withey, Travis Releford, Elijah Johnson and Ben McLemore all scored 13 points to help Kansas to a 5-1 record on the season. The Jayhawks play again Friday when they host the Oregon State Beavers.
