The Kansas Jayhawks aren't just beginning spring football training on Tuesday - it's the beginning of the Charlie Weis era in Lawrence as well.

Jayhawks fans can only hope that Weis can provide a spark to a program that's been awful lately, particularly going 2-23 in Big 12 play over the last three seasons. Weis' reputation as an offensive genius and play-caller is expected to rub off on Kansas and maybe even turn the team into something worth watching in 2012.

Another interesting name, former Dallas Cowboys head coach Dave Campo, will coach the defense, which ranked as the worst scoring defense in the country among FBS schools. So aside from the addition of Campo to the staff, the Jayhawks can at least rest in the fact that their defense can't actually get any worse.

Between the experience of Weis and Campo, the Jayhawks have to at least be optimistic about this season. There will be 15 spring practices before the spring game on April 28.
