Angel Rodriguez scored a season high 17 points as Kansas State rolled to an opening round win in the Diamond Head Classic 83-58 over Southern Illinois.
Kansas State captured an opening round win at the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu with a 83-58 win over Southern Illinois. The Wildcats will face UTEP in semifinal action on Friday.
Angel Rodriguez scored a season-high 17 points to lead four different Wildcats with double figures scoring. Jamar Samuels did most of his damage at the free throw line finishing 10-12 and totaling 14 points in the game. Rodney McGruder scored 13 points and Jordan Henriquez finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. Jeff Early and Justin Bocot each scored 10 points to lead the Salukis.
Kansas State took a 48-29 lead into the half and cruised home in the second. The Wildcats shot a sizzling 54 percent from the field and went 9-14 from beyond-the-arc. Kansas State also out rebounded Southern Illinois 40-27 and held the Salukis to just 29 percent shooting for the game.
