Heisman watch 2012: Collin Klein leading projections going into Baylor game

Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

ESPN's Heisman projections have K-State quarterback Collin Klein at the top, even after his streaky performance against TCU.

Kansas State will face the Baylor Bears on Saturday, with the Wildcats looking to stay undefeated and Collin Klein looking to keep his status in the Heisman race high.

Klein's performance in K-State's last game, a hard-fought 23-10 win over the TCU Horned Frogs, wasn't the best of his college career by far, but it was good enough to keep him in first place in ESPN's Heisman projections. Garnering 12 of the first place votes by the ESPN experts, Klein has a big lead over the competition. Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel and Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o were the only other players able to get first place votes from the voters.

The staff noted that he was still top of the list even after the less than superb performance against the Frogs:

"In a workman-like 23-10 victory over TCU, Klein threw for only 145 yards and zero touchdowns to go along with one interception. He made up for the lack of aerial highlights by rushing for 50 yards and two TDs. It wasn't nearly one of Klein's best performances of the season, but it was enough, as No. 2 Kansas State remained undefeated."

Another trademark performance - along with a win, of course - against the Bears could help seal the deal on the Heisman race in Klein's favor, assuming that the Wildcats are able to get it done against Texas in the final week of the season as well.
