The Wildcats face the No. 4 Michigan Wolverines on Friday in the NIT Season Tipoff title game.
Kansas State and No. 4 Michigan square off on Friday afternoon in the NIT Season Tipoff title game at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Both teams started the season with relatively easy victories before running into tough tests in the semifinals of the NIT Season Tipoff. Michigan had to mount a second-half comeback in a 67-62 win over Pittsburgh in front of an enthusiastic crowd at MSG, while Kansas State struggled in a 66-63 win over Delaware after shooting just 30 percent in the first half.
Kansas State should present another tough test for Michigan, as coach Bruce Weber became very familiar with the Wolverines during his time at Illinois. The two teams have not met since Nov. 25, 2002, a 82-71 win for the Wildcats.
While the Wildcats don't boast the family history and talent of the Michigan roster, Kansas State has used a balanced offensive game led by Angel Rodriguez and Will Sprading to get to 5-0 on the season. The Wildcats, however, will need a strong performance by slumping guard Rodney McGruder to have a chance on Friday.
Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m. CT with coverage on ESPN.
