2012 bowl projections: K-State heading to Fiesta Bowl

US PRESSWIRE

The Kansas State Wildcats once had national title aspirations, but they'll settle for a berth in the Fiesta Bowl after clinching the Big 12 championship Saturday night.

For a while, it looked like Kansas State was destined for the National Championship game, but a loss to Baylor on Nov. 17 derailed those hopes and the Wildcats had to settle for a still-stellar 11-1 season and a Big 12 title.

The accomplishments of this team and of Heisman candidate Collin Kelin have landed the Wildcats in the Fiesta Bowl, where they will face the Oregon Ducks, if SB Nation's latest bowl projections are right.

Oregon would enter that game with an at-large bid, having narrowly missed out on an appearance in the Pac-12 championship game.

The Jan. 3 Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Ariz. is one of college football's five BCS bowl games, including the National Championship. SB Nation and pretty much everyone else in the world project that game to be between Alabama and Notre Dame.

If the rest of the big-game predictions are correct, Kansas State will be one of two Big 12 teams representing the conference in BCS bowls. Oklahoma looks like it will be going to the Sugar Bowl to play Florida on Jan. 2.

The BCS selection show is scheduled for Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. CT.
