Kansas State Listed At No. 2 In Offseason Big 12 Football Power Rankings

The National Football Post’s Dave Miller has put up his Big 12 football rankings for the spring season and Kansas State fans have plenty to be excited about. While last season’s success came completely out of the blue and most sportswriters had the Wildcats finishing near the bottom of the league, Miller now has the Cats at No. 2 overall behind Bob Stoops and Oklahoma.

Miller writes, "Head coach Bill Snyder did an incredible job coaxing 10 wins out of his Wildcats last fall behind a sound rush defense and the play of quarterback Collin Klein, perhaps the most unheralded dual-threat talent in the nation. He improved as a passer as the season progressed and will need to continue to do so this offseason. Defensively, keep an eye on transfer Nigel Malone, a cornerback who will strengthen the one area of this defense that needs improvement."

While the impact recruiting classes aren’t going to be there for Snyder this season, Miller is right that no one does more with a perceived less. Snyder and Klein should continue to make beautiful music in 2012.

As for the Kansas Jayhawks, Miller believes they will finish as well as they did in 2011 despite the presence of new blood in Charlie Weis and Dayne Crist. He writes, "Former Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis takes over a team that lost six games by at least 30 points last season. Quarterback Dayne Crist will likely get his chance to be a full-time starter once again, but the defense needs to drastically improve for the Jayhawks to even be able to stay competitive."
