Collin Klein on Kansas State loss: 'It hurts and it should hurt'

Ronald Martinez

Kansas State likely lost a chance at the national championship after their 52-24 defeat at the hands of the Baylor Bears, and might have cost Wildcats' quarterback Collin Klein a chance at the Heisman in the process.

The Kansas State Wildcats, newly minted this week as the No. 1 team in college football, were drubbed on Saturday night by the Baylor Bears, 52-24. The loss likely knocked the Wildcats out of contention for the BCS National Championship, and the thorough demolition did nothing to aid Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein's chances of capturing this year's Heisman trophy.

After the game, Klein commented on the loss:

"It hurts, and it should hurt," Klein said. "Even Coach (Snyder) said it should really hurt, because that means you've invested something. It means there is loss. There is pain. But again, like he also says, it's going to test our mettle. We'll see what kind of team we are."

Klein completed 27-of-50 passes in the contest for 286 yards and two touchdowns. However, his three interceptions matched his entire season total and played a significant role in the defeat, as did his play to begin the second half. On the first two possessions after halftime, Klein was 0-for-6 and tossed an interception that resulted in a Baylor touchdown. By the time the Wildcats quarterback completed a pass in the third quarter, the Bears were already up, 45-24.

Kansas State has the weekend off before facing the Texas Longhorns on Dec. 1. Kickoff time has yet to be scheduled.
