Former Missouri Quarterback Tyler Gabbert Visiting Louisville Today

Tyler Gabbert has to feel like he’s in familiar waters. After leaving the Missouri Tigers football program to have a better chance at landing a starting quarterback gig, Gabbert is now back at the recruiting game — visiting various college programs to determine where to land. Louisville is apparently the first stop for the younger brother of newly drafted Blaine Gabbert, now of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The drama was high just weeks ago when the younger Gabbert announced his decision to leave through his father, Chuck, leaving James Franklin as the starting quarterback for Gary Pinkel’s squad by default. Mizzou is now woefully thin at quarterback, yet Gabbert still believed that leaving was his best move.

CBS Sports reporter Brett McMurphy writes that it’s UofL quarterbacks coach Shawn Watson who drew Gabbert to the school, since Watson actively recruited Gabbert back when he was with Nebraska (and Gabbert committed then decommitted from Nebraska).

ESPN’s Brian Bennett has some solid analysis of the current Louisville quarterback class, including how this will affect incoming frosh Teddy Bridgewater. Perhaps any worry is for naught since Gabbert has several more alleged places on the list. At this point, it’s back to the flirting game of recruitment, so it will be a bit before we hear any news on his final decision.
