While Gary Pinkel may still bring in the biggest fish yet with the rumors that Dorial Green-Beckham might be headed to Missouri come Wednesday, he lost out today to a nice three-star offensive tackle who would have been a nice addition to the recruiting class. Simon Goines announced today that he was choosing the UCLA Bruins over the Missouri Tigers.
Bruins Nation reports the news that Jim Mora has developed a nice first recruiting class, especially with the addition of Goines, a tackle from Keller, Texas:
The “mammoth tackle prospect” (as described by Biggins)listed at 6-8, 295 on Scout.com committed to Bruin blue and gold in a closely watched national recruiting battle between UCLA and Missouri. Earlier today Missouri received a commitment from one of the most sought after recruit in the country – WR Dorial Green-Beckham from Springfield, Missouri. DGB’s decision seemed to have no impact on Goines.
While Goines is listed a 3 star prospect on Scout.com and Rivals.com, don’t be fooled. The kid had offers from over 15 D-1 programs including schools such as Arkansas, West Virginia, Baylor and Mississippi State. What is also interesting is that Goines was also recruited to play hoops by couple of mid major programs such as Western Kentucky and New Hampshire. Missouri apparently also talked to him about potentially playing in its hoops program when he reportedly committed to the Tigers last summer.

Keler, Texas offensive lineman Simon Goines will announce his commitment to either Missouri or UCLA at 3:30 p.m. CT Monday, according to Pete Scantlebury of PowerMizzou.com. The 6-7, 290 lb. Goines is considered a three-star recruit by both Rivals and Scout, and had initially committed to the Tigers in December before UCLA made a late push. Goines visited the Brentwood, Los Angeles campus on January 20.
Goines is still considered a Missouri commitment, along with four-star offensive lineman Evan Boehm (Lee's Summit, Missouri) and three-star Jordan Williams of Denton, Texas in the 19-player class as of Sunday. With the reported commitment of the nation's top recruit, Springfield, Missouri wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham to the Tigers on Monday, there's no word if Goines' decision would be influenced by the huge get for Mizzou.
