The Missouri Tigers entered Saturday's game against the Vanderbilt Commodores looking for their first conference win as a member of the SEC, but instead the homestanding Tigers ended up with an injury to their starting quarterback and a 19-15 loss to the visiting Commodores.
For the most part, the game between the two conference foes was a low-scoring affair. Missouri could blame that on the injury to quarterback James Franklin, who injured his knee early in the game and was unable to return.
Things changed, however, in the fourth quarter, as the two teams combined for 16 points. Tigers' freshman quarterback Corbin Berkstresser, who was replacing Franklin, struggled mightily before finding his groove late in the game. On the day, the freshman completed just 9 of his 30 passes for 189 yards and one touchdown.
The Commodores capitalized on their opportunities, largely thanks to running back Zac Stacy, who scored Vanderbilt's only two touchdowns and took 29 carries for 72 yards.
Box Score Hero: Tigers running back Kendial Lawrence took 21 carries for 92 yards, good for a 4.4 yards-per-carry average.
Rankings Ramifications: Both teams were unranked and neither are expected to be ranked following Saturday's game. Vanderbilt is still just 2-3 on the season.
But Did They Cover? Missouri, 7-point favorites, were unable to cover the spread, meaning the Commodores did.

The Missouri Tigers will open the fourth quarter tied at 9 with the Vanderbilt Commodores at home, after the Tigers were able to score three points in the third quarter at Faurot Field.
The only score in the third quarter between the two teams was a 22-yard field goal off the foot of Tigers kicker Andrew Baggett. Otherwise, the two teams are having great trouble moving the ball with any authority.
The Tigers are seeking their first conference win and were leading the Commodores after the first quarter. However, starting quarterback James Franklin suffered a knee injury and was ruled out of the game in the second quarter.
Franklin's injury left the Tigers with no choice but to turn to backup quarterback Corbin Berkstresser, who has struggled mightily in the game. The freshman has completed just 6 of his 24 pass attempts for 62 yards and has picked up 15 yards on the ground. Fortunately for Missouri, the defense has remained stout in allowing the Vanderbilt offense to score just one touchdown on the day.

The Missouri Tigers are in search for their first conference win and fourth victory on the season, but the team will need to do it without starting quarterback James Franklin, who suffered a left knee injury during Saturday's game against the Vanderbilt Commodores in the first quarter.
The 6-foot-2 Franklin will not be able to return to the game, according to Blair Kerkhoff of the Kansas City Star. Before suffering the injury, the junior quarterback completed five of his nine passes for 56 yards through the air, but was also able to pick up 23 yards on the ground
In replace of Franklin, the Tigers turned to freshman quarterback Corbin Berkstresser. Since replacing Franklin, Berkstresser has completed just four of his thirteen pass attempts for 29 yards.
The loss of Franklin will greatly hurt the Tigers in the short-term, as the team continues to battle for their first conference win, but also in the long term considering the team's other option is a freshman quarterback.

In search of their first conference win, the Missouri Tigers lead the Vanderbilt Commodores by the score of 6-2, after one quarter of play at Faurot Field.
Missouri was able to put points on the board in two different drives, thanks to kicker Andrew Baggett, who successfully made field goals from 31 and 28 yards. Offensively, the Missouri running game starred in the first quarter. As a group, the Tigers accounted for 78 yards of offense in 11 carries.
However, the Commodores pinned the Tigers back at their own 2 yard line late in the first quarter and were unable to pick up any yardage. The Tigers then were set to punt out of their own end zone, but the ball went through the hands of the punter and out of bounds, giving the Commodores a safety.
Otherwise, the Tigers defense has been stout against the Commodores passing and running attacks, allowing just 1.2 yards per carry on the ground. In addition, Vanderbilt quarterback Jordan Rodgers has completed just three of his six passes for a mere 17 yards.
