After crashing into a car and then fleeing the scene, Corbin Berkstresser had to realize that some level of punishment was forthcoming from the University of Missouri concerning his playing status. After being arrested, the Tigers No. 2 quarterback behind James Franklin is now suspended.
Dave Matter gives more details, and the Columbia Tribune Daily writer has been all over the story from the beginning:
Missouri quarterback Corbin Berkstresser will indefinitely sit out team activities per a university policy that states athletes who have been charged with a felony or face a possible felony charge are automatically suspended, team spokesman Chad Moller confirmed yesterday.
If the suspension goes on for some time, it could be interesting to see if new freshman Maty Mauk can pass his competition near the bottom of the depth chart coming in. With Franklin injured, Berkstresser was going to earn important first team reps all spring and summer. Now if he’s out, Mauk and Ashton Glaser would likely compete.
The incoming quarterback from Kenton, Ohio set national career high school marks for completions, attempts, touchdowns and passing yards.
