Thunder, Suns to help military charity in preseason game

Derick E. Hingle-US PRESSWIRE

The Thunder and Suns will use their preseason game to raise money for the families of fallen or disabled soldiers.

A sell-out crowd is expected in Tulsa to see the Oklahoma City Thunder and Phoenix Suns square off in the preseason and fans will have the chance to do much more than just watch some basketball. That is because the Thunder and Suns are raising money at the game for the Honor Foundation, which raises money for the families of military personnel who were killed or disabled in battle.

"We are honored to again partner with the Folds of Honor Foundation and provide our fans in Tulsa an opportunity to support this tremendous organization," said Thunder Senior Vice President Brian Byrnes. "The foundation’s mission of providing educational assistance to military families is an incredible way to honor and support those who sacrifice so much for our nation."

There will be collection buckets throughout the arena asking fans to donate to the charity and the Thunder are contributing $10,000 as well. This is the second time that the Thunder have raised money for the Honor Foundation, having conducted a similar fundraiser at a preseason game in Tulsa two years ago.
