Serge Ibaka deal is 4 years, $48 million, league source tells Y! Sports.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) August 18, 2012
Ibaka will turn 23 in September as he prepares for his fourth NBA season with the Thunder. With the extension, general manager Sam Presti and the Thunder avoid allowing Ibaka to become a restricted free agent next summer.
The front court player has been a key defensive presence for the young OKC team, starting every game last season while averaging 9.1 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game and 3.7 blocks per game.
The extension of Ibaka may mean that NBA sixth man of the year James Harden is heading into his last season with the Thunder. Like Ibaka, Harden is in the final year of his rookie contract, and if he's not signed by next summer, he would become a restricted free agent.
