The Kansas Jayhawks have historically been the top dog in the Big 12 which is why it was somewhat of a surprise that it was the Kansas State Wildcats who were the preseason favorite to win the conference. It's far from being decided -- and there's no doubt it will be a dog fight -- but Kansas has jumped Kansas State in the latest NCAA basketball rankings.
The Jayhawks started the season at No. 7, then jumped to No. 6 last week and now scoot on up to No. 4 in the latest AP poll for the college basketball rankings. Last week KU had a 41-point victory over Texas A&M-CC, 57-point victory over Ohio and beat Arizona by eight. The Jayhawks have looked good season led by the Big 12 Player of the Week in Marcus Morris. KU is now 6-0 on the season.
Meanwhile Kansas State drops from No. 4 to No. 5 after losing to No. 1 Duke last week. K-State added a 24-point victory over Texas Southern later in the week but it's the Duke game they'll remember. Kansas State is now 5-1 on the season.
And last but certainly not least is the Missouri Tigers who started the season at No. 15, moved to No. 11 and now stand at No. 9. This is their first week in the top 10. Mizzou defeated Wyoming by 10, La Salle by 12 for the Cancun Challenge title and then Arkansas Pine-Bluff in a 28-point victory.
It's a hell of a time to be a college basketball fan in Kansas City as all three teams look terrific to start the season. Check out more on the rankings at Rock Chalk Talk, Bring On The Cats and Rock M Nation.
