Kansas State Football In Pinstripe Bowl Could Help Frank Martin And Basketball Team

The Kansas State Wildcats football team are playing in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl in New York City this week so we're going to be seeing more and more media coverage of the team. That heightened coverage often helps not only K-State's football team but the entire athletic department, including the basketball team.

K-State basketball head coach Frank Martin said (via the KC Star) this week that it's creating some attention for the basketball team as well.

"Oh absolutely," Martin said. "I've had people from New York call me asking me if they can come to the game thinking it's a basketball game. They see the advertisement, it's basketball season and New York has not had a bowl game in years, so they assume it's basketball. Obviously Syracuse is involved. I can't even tell you how many people have reached out to me and said, 'Hey, when you get into town I want to come to your game.' I have to tell them, 'It's football. Not basketball.' They all say, 'Are you kidding me?'"
Kansas State-Syracuse does sound more like a basketball game than a football game. New York has been kind to Kansas State in recent with years with Curtis Kelly, Devon Peterson and Shane Southwell from the area. K-State's football presence in New York certainly can't hurt their basketball presence.
