Bo Pelini and the Nebraska Cornhuskers are on their way out from the Big 12 this year so this will be the final Big 12 Championship game they play in and it'll come against rival Oklahoma Sooners. But will it be the final Big 12 Championship game we see? Bo Pelini doesn't think so.
"I think it's probably the last one maybe for a year or two," Pelini said at Cowboys Stadium, "but I don't think this will be the last Big 12 championship (game). ... I think the conference will keep thriving. It will probably add — who knows what's going to happen?"
Agreed, who knows what will happen. At some point, the Big 12 needs to add a couple of teams to bring this championship game back.
"I wouldn't be surprised if you see a Big 12 championship come back around here pretty quick," Pelini said.
Of course, it's not like Pelini cares anymore as they move onto the Big Ten, who doesn't have a championship game this year. Pelini's buddy and rival coach, Oklahoma's Bob Stoops, agrees that a Big 12 Championship game could be coming soon.
"Hopefully, that is the case," the Oklahoma coach said, endorsing Pelini's idea for a renewed title game. "If there are more, that will be great. If there aren't, that will be great, too. So it will pretty much be great one way or the other."
Conferences aren't nearly as exciting without a championship game which I hope the Big 12 keeps in mind moving forward.
