Insight Bowl 2010: Missouri Tigers Will Meet Iowa Hawkeyes

The Missouri Tigers will be headed to Tempe, Arizona to play the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Insight Bowl on Dec. 28, according to the Kansas City Star. This is somewhat of a surprise for Mizzou who some thought were headed to the Holiday Bowl.

ESPN, looking to heighten the drama of its BCS bowl show on Sunday, talked Missouri into delaying its bowl announcent from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday night.

But by 6 p.m. the news was starting to leak out all over the midwest.

My 2010 bowl projections had the Oklahoma State Cowboys going to the Alamo Bowl, Nebraska Cornhuskers to the Insight Bowl and Missouri Tigers to the Holiday Bowl. Apparently that's not the case. The Huskers are coming off of a loss to the Oklahoma Sooners in the Big 12 Championship game.

A lot of folks, including myself, figured the Insight Bowl would be interested in a future Big Ten preview with Nebraska playing Iowa.

The Kansas City Star has a great question on the surprise bowl invite:

Was that payback for the Insight slighting Missouri in favor of a more ticket-hungering Iowa State last year?
