[Update: Hmm....Multiple South Florida newspapers are now reporting there's been some sort of contact between Pelini and Miami. Here's the update. -Joel]
Rumors started up that Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Bo Pelini was a candidate for the Miami Hurricanes vacant head coaching job. We're not sure why or if Pelini would consider the job -- Nebraska's a pretty darn good job as it is -- but nevertheless there was a rumor floating around.
Nebraska AD Tom Osborne has shot down those reports.
Athletic director Tom Osborne told the Lincoln Journal Star that he has not given Pelini permission to speak to Miami about the job, and Pelini says he didn't seek permission to interview for another job. Pelini wouldn't otherwise comment publicly on the report.
When a high-profile job like Miami opens up, many successful coaches are going to be attached to it whether there's actual legs to the rumor or not. That's the case with Pelini.
Nebraska had a strong season and nearly won the Big 12 so I'm not sure why Pelini would be interested in leaving -- or why Nebraska would let him leave. But it's not happening.
