Royals Hope To Sign Draft Picks Quickly

The Royals drafted 50 players in the 2010 MLB Draft.

Now all they have to do is sign then. Easier said than done, that's for sure.

The Royals are beginning the work to sign all 50 players and hope to have 18 in next week's minicamp.

“Basically, you’re trying to pick a diamond in the rough,” Picollo said. “You look at (Stephen) Strasburg and what he did (Tuesday for Washington). Well, four years ago in high school, he wasn’t a high-profile guy.

“So if you can figure something out, and the guy is signable, you end up getting a star at a younger age. I’m happy with the way it went, but we’ll know in five years whether this was a successful draft.”

The Royals aren't expected to have any trouble signing the majority of the players.  A local guy, RHP Jason Adam from Blue Valley Northwest, is expected to take some time.

“We’re going to have to work to get (Adam) signed,” Picollo said, “but some guys taken shortly after that will be there.”
